Spain
The Alaskan trip from last year blessed my sister and me in more ways than we had anticipated. There, in Alaska, we met a woman by the name of Cathy Hart. She then asked us question ofter question, and in the end, told us that she was very impressed with us and wanted to take us to Spain to a Wilderness Congress: WILD. To make this trip happen, Nicola and I would have to fund raise about six thousand dollars and begin working on a project to present at the Congress! Somehow, after lot's of hard work and effort, it all fell into place and in October, Nicola and I found ourselves on a plane headed to Spain with a group of Alaskans! This trip was an amazing experience in many ways! I met new people, I learned new things, and visited new places!
Project:
Nicola and I made a documentary about the negative effect invasive plant species has on natives and the surrounding environment. In the film, we are using puppets, original photography, cartoons, and audio music to entertain our audience. Our audience with be the elementary students in Chimacum so that we can spread awareness and possible receive help from those kids. After we present our video to the children in the classes, we want to go out into the wild and they can help us remove invasive plants (such as scotch broom with weed-wrenches) and plant native plants (such as Douglas fir trees).
